I’m self-appointed WLHA editorial director Grumpy Old Dan Smith and here’s what makes me grumpy: Happiness. What if I told you that being grumpy help you make more money, have a healthy marriage and live longer? Believe me. A lot of people way smarter than I am study this stuff: the stuff about happy versus grumpy people. I feel pressure to be happy from everyone from my mother to my radio. While happy may seem like a good thing many studies indicate that you’re better off being grumpy. Some studies suggest grumps are better negotiators; decision-makers and can cut their risk of heart attacks. They go on to suggest that good moods sap your drive, dim your attention and make you both gullible and selfish. I don’t know about you, but I’d much rather be a good decision-maker that gullible. Here’s a good one: Scientists in England say that grumpiness improves language skills, memory and makes us more persuasive. Come on. You’ve tried being positive and happy and look where you’re at. Gullible and sapped. My advice: get grumpy and stay grumpy. It just might make you happy. I’m Grumpy Old Dan Smith and you can hear me Monday-Friday throughout the day or check out my new show “American Cafe” Sundays from 3-6 (CST). Get the link here.
