I’m self-appointed WLHA editorial director Grumpy Old Dan Smith and here’s what makes me grumpy: newspaper deliveries. This comes from one of our grumpier listeners and—believe me—I need all the help we can get. This listener delivered newspapers on his bike every day after school and made a nice living for a 12-year still crashing with his parents. He delivered the paper right to your porch and if it was raining, he put the paper between the screen door and the front door. Fast forward fifty years. Today’s newspapers are delivered by grown-ups driving cars who hurl your paper like a sky hook that would make Kareem proud. On good days they hit the driveway. On not so good days that newspaper lands under your car, on your roof or everyone’s favorite, a puddle. No wonder newspaper subscriptions have declined to about 35 million from 60 million in the last 25 years. But I for one still like getting a newspaper every morning. Nothing beats a cup of coffee a toasted muffin and a wet newspaper. Thanks for the tip. I’m Grumpy Old Dan Smith inviting you to listen to WLHA, the Big 64.
